Gokul Chaudhri
Partner – Tax, Deloitte India

Gokul is a Partner with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP. 

In his career span of 27 years, which commenced with one of the Big 4 in 1991, Gokul has focused on the energy sector. Gokul was the leader of the Energy, Chemicals and Mining industry and member of the Oil & Gas industry team at a Big 4 firm. Thereafter he was amongst the founding partners at BMR Advisors and led it’s Direct Tax Practice. At Deloitte, Gokul is Head of Global Tax Clients and Senior Partner focused on the energy practice. 

His professional service experience includes significant engagements for domestic and international clients, including multi-billion dollar cross border transactions, privatization initiatives and project advisory for large infrastructure assets. He has been the engagement partner serving the largest oil and gas companies operating in India, on tax and regulatory matters. In addition, he has extensive experience in structuring and presenting (possibly over 400 in number) in-bound foreign investment proposals to the Government of India. In the early years of the liberalization in India, he was the joint leader for the engagement commissioned by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for benchmarking concerns and challenges faced by foreign investors in India. 

Over the past two decades, Gokul has been an active speaker at domestic and international seminars. He has been a member of the Institute of Petroleum (now The Energy Institute, London) and Federation of Indian Mineral Industries. He was the Chairman of the Energy Committee of PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He has also authored and presented papers at workshops and conferences on the topic of fiscal policy reforms. He has been a participant and speaker at the investment road shows held in Europe by the Government of India and was also invited by the business forum of the European Commission to speak at Brussels on the reform process in India. He was invited to present to the global boards of two leading European oil companies on the topic of “Economy & Energy in India” and was a guest speaker at the Federation of German Industries on tax environment in India, and presented on business environment to the US India Business Council, and to the Association of Oil & Gas Operators on various tax policy matters. 

Gokul has been involved in fiscal reform initiatives by the Government of India, and was a member of the task force on tax reforms for the mining industry. He is currently a member of the central council of International Fiscal Association. He also served as a member of the finance sub group for road map for Clean Development Mechanism under the National Action Plan for Climate Change, and technical group for guidance on accounting of carbon credits constituted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. 

Gokul is a graduate in Commerce from the University of Mumbai and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994.

Dinesh Kanabar
CEO, Dhruva Advisors LLP

Dinesh Kanabar (India): Dinesh is the CEO of Dhruva Advisors LLP.  Prior to founding Dhruva Advisors, he was the Deputy CEO of KPMG India.  He has been active in government committees.  Previously, he was a member of the Rangachary Committee, which dealt with tax reforms in the IT/ITES sector and evolved the Indian Safe Harbour Rules.  He has also worked on some of the largest and most complicated M&A transactions, internal reorganizations, tax litigation, Competent Authority proceedings, Advance Pricing Agreements, etc. in the country.

R Parthasarathy
Principal Partner, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan

Parthasarathy heads the Intellectual Property Division of L&S (All India) and the Tax Practice of Chennai and Hyderabad areas. He is an expert on Indirect Taxes, including GST, Patents, Trademarks and copyrights and also on Customs, Foreign Trade Policy, Anti-dumping and WTO laws. He is also involved in litigation in all the above areas. In addition, Parthasarathy actively involves in WTO trade remedy laws in Geneva. 

Before entering private practice, Parthasarathy was with the Government of India as an Indian Audit & Accounts Service officer and held various positions such as Deputy Secretary & Director Ministry of Commerce (Antidumping), Director Railway Board and Accountant General, Tamilnadu. He had audited the accounts of UN Headquarters and had been a UNDP consultant. 

He has been with the firm of Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan since 1996.

Presently he is also actively involved in GST implementation for various clients.

Vinay Sethi

Vinay is currently the Head of Market development for Global Tax business of Thomson Reuters in South Asia. This entails leading the Strategy, Market, Propositions an Alliances Development for the growth opportunities in tax and accounting business in South Asia.

Vinay has a work experience of over 17 years including around 10 years in BIG4. In his previous stints in India and overseas, Vinay has handled variety of roles including Business development and marketing of services and solutions to large multinationals corporate, SMEs and government sector; Planning and propelling initiatives on Tax Technology solutions, working and delivering on Global Compliance Management Services, International tax, tax compliances and assessments, Building and developing tax practice.

Sanjiv Malhotra

Sanjiv is part of the Global tax and transfer pricing practice of Baker McKenzie and is based in Singapore.  He is a member of the global transfer pricing steering committee of the Firm and co-chairs the Asia-Pacific transfer pricing steering committee. Rohit Jain
Partner, ELP

Rohit Jain is a Partner in the Tax practice of ELP focusing on indirect taxes, direct tax and transfer pricing. He is a law graduate from the University of Mumbai and a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). His areas of expertise include customs, excise, service tax, central sales tax, state VAT laws and foreign trade policy.

Rohit has been with the firm since its inception and has over a decade of experience in handling matters related to tax, in both advisory and litigation matters. He has advised various Fortune 500 Companies and Indian Conglomerates in sectors like financial services, manufacturing, telecommunication, oil and gas, petroleum and infrastructure projects in order to ensure smooth transitions from sales tax to the VAT regime. Amarjeet Singh

Ketan Dalal

Ketan Dalal is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, having qualified in 1981. He has extensive experience on cross border tax issues and investment structuring, including mergers and acquisitions. 

In April 2017, he founded Katalyst Advisors LLP, a boutique structuring and advisory firm, to pursue his independent professional interest. Prior to Katalyst, he performed various roles in PwC, most notably as the Joint Head Tax, All India and the Regional Managing Partner (West); he was also a member of the India Leadership Team with PwC India.
